Cybersecurity from the FBI Trenches Online Event Sponsored by IERG CT Chapter
Thursday, December 02, 2021, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Category: Events

Despite a recent decline, ransomware is still a serious threat to the private and public sectors and, broadly, it’s increasing. It's a national security issue here in the US and abroad.

Come join the IERG CT chapter to hear Retired Supervisory Special Agent Peterson speak about her firsthand experience as the FBI's criminal cyber supervisor in San Francisco and the most common compromises and vulnerabilities she encountered while dealing with corporate victims of cybercrime.

She will also discuss the financial and political incentives driving cybercrime and detail how the public and private sectors can best work together to prevent and impact such crimes.

About the Speaker:

Retired Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Donna Peterson began her FBI career in the Los Angeles field office working transnational computer intrusions, insider threats, and online fraud. SSA Peterson spent several years in international operations overseeing the bureau’s European legal attaché offices, and then as an assistant legal attaché in Canberra, Australia, handling national security matters. In 2017, SSA Peterson was selected to serve as the FBI detailee to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where she worked on national security and cybersecurity policy matters. SSA Peterson’s last assignment with the FBI was supervising the criminal cyber squad responsible for investigating computer intrusions, insider threats, ransomware, and business email compromises in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prior to joining the FBI, SSA Peterson was a Russian cryptologic linguist with the U.S. Air Force.

All IERG members and Invited Guests are welcome to attend the Connecticut Chapter Event, but all must register.
