In a recent study, when asked, “What are the top issues you face at work?”  leaders said that 76% are on the people/relational (EQ) side, and only 24% on the finance/technical (IQ) side.  In another study primarily of managers and senior managers, of 775 respondents, a massive 89% identified EQ as “highly important” or “essential” to meeting their organization’s top challenges.

The Sunday Times “Top 100 Best Companies To Work For” shows that you earn on average 12.2% year on year more profit from an EQ focus, rather than chasing short term debilitating and ultimately unsustainable FTSE 100 IQ.  Today there are endless options in a globally connected internet world, where there are endless possibilities and where there is never going to be a ‘new normal’.  IQ predictability has had its day.

Success now, however you define it will be through building trusting Relationships (EQ) not short-term results (IQ) usually placing Profit before People – even worse, using people to balance the books!  As constant fast change becomes the norm, Character (EQ) is now clearly seen to be the differentiator between success and failure, sustainability or death.
